KP waterfall
Introduction
KP Waterfall, located near Khopoli, is a wonderful site where nature merges with human creations. The Pune-Mumbai Expressway provides a view of its amazing waterfall. The waterfall is famed for its visual beauty and provides a breathtaking view of Khopoli from the top. The waterfall and the next to train track crossing are two natural wonders that can be enjoyed concurrently.
A Disappointing Start
In July 2023, my friend and I eagerly looked forward to our KP waterfall trek. We had marked the date and were counting down the days. We planned to meet at 4 AM near the Kasarwadi railway station to start our adventure.Excitement filled the air when I arrived at the station on time, ready for the day ahead. However, I couldn’t reach my friend on his phone. Frustration began to set in as I waited. After what felt like a very long time, he called. Sadly, he had run into some unexpected problems and couldn’t join me. I was taken aback and uncertain about my next steps, especially considering my home was a distant 25 km away.
A Ray of Hope
Determined not to let the day go to waste, I remembered my friend Yogesh, who lived nearby. Without a second thought, I dialed his number, hoping he’d be available. To my relief, he answered and agreed to hang out, but only after 9 a.m. With a few hours to spare, I began thinking about how to make the most of the day.

The Magnificent Statue and the Serene Temple
My day began with a trip to the Chinchwad MIDC area. There, I couldn’t believe my eyes! A massive 51-foot statue of Lord Hanuman was right in front of me. It was so big, I felt tiny in comparison. I wondered how they made something so big look so detailed.
After that, I wanted some quiet time, so I went to the Saint Morya Gosavi Maharaj Samadhi Mandir temple. The moment I stepped in, everything felt so peaceful.
A Traditional Breakfast to Fuel Our Adventure
When it turned 9 a.m., I went to pick up Yogesh from his shop. Due to the three-hour ride followed by a 2-3 hour trek, we debated the feasibility of visiting KP Waterfall. But Yogesh, who rarely gets breaks from his work, was eager to trek. As a result, our journey began. but before that, We were both pretty hungry, so we decided to have some breakfast. We ate Wadapav with hot tea. It tasted great and got us ready for our next adventure.
Chasing the KP Waterfall
After driving for two hours, we stopped in Lonavala, had some tea, and then went on to Khopoli, where the KP Waterfall starts. The rainy season made everything look beautiful. There was a lot of fog on the road, and we saw many waterfalls and green places, especially when we went through Khandala Ghat.
When we reached Datta Mandir, we parked our bikes under the expansive banyan tree, just outside the temple’s parking area. A few friendly locals pointed us to the waterfall. Realizing we were running a bit late, we began our trek swiftly.
We passed many little waterfalls and walked through thick forests. After about an hour, we came to a very slippery part of the path because of the rain. To be safe, I put socks on over my shoes so I wouldn’t slip. This part of the trek was a bit scary, and my heart was beating fast. I think this trek might be too hard for new trekkers because of that slippery part. Once we got past that, I saw a beautiful view of the whole city of Khopoli. The city looked like it was hidden in the forest, and there were so many waterfalls coming down from the mountains.
We walked across train tracks to get to the waterfall. There, we saw rocks that looked like they were shaped by people, but maybe nature did it. The best part was seeing the waterfall and watching a train go by on a bridge. It was so cool that I can’t even explain how amazing it was! We stayed there for a bit, took some pictures and videos, and then went into a tunnel just for fun. Inside the tunnel, we took more awesome pictures.
Return Journey
After spending 2 hours at the waterfall, we began our way back down. It started to rain really hard, which made the path slippery and hard to see because of the fog. The walk back was tough, and both Yogesh and I were very tired and hungry. On our way down, we met some people who told us that the police were taking away bikes parked near Datta Mandir. They said on weekends, people weren’t allowed to visit this place. When we heard that, we rushed to the parking area to get our bikes. Luckily, when we got there, only three bikes were left, including ours. We quickly started our bikes and left. As we were leaving, we saw the tow truck coming to take the remaining bikes. We were so close to getting our bikes towed! We laughed, relieved, and began our trip back home.
On the way, we saw a big traffic jam in Lonavala and Khandala Ghat because it was a weekend. It took us an hour just to get through Khandala Ghat. When we finally reached the highway near Lonavala, we stopped at a shop. We were cold from the rain, so we had hot tea to warm up. We also bought some famous Lonavala chikki as treats for our family.
Halfway through our trip back home, we were really hungry. So, we stopped our bikes at a place called Shivraj Hotel. There, we ate a chicken thali which is like a big meal with lots of tasty things. After we finished eating and felt full and happy, we got back on our bikes and continued riding home.
Conclusion
The KP waterfall trip was super fun and something I’ll always remember. Even though my friend couldn’t come, the beautiful waterfall and the exciting things that happened made it special. Sometimes, when things don’t go as planned, they can still turn out great. So, always be ready for surprises and enjoy whatever comes your way!
