Sometimes we travel far to explore famous places, but we forget the beautiful places that are very close to our home. This happens with me many times. Every time I feel that I have explored all the places in Pune, the city surprises me with something new.
A few days ago, my friend Akshay took me to a hidden gem located just 5 km from my house. I was honestly surprised because I had never heard about this place before. After visiting Shree Sankatharan Mahadev Mandir, I decided that I must visit this place again with my family.
And as a corporate majdoor, weekends are very special for me. It’s the only time when I can relax and spend quality time with my family.
Today is Saturday, and in the morning I suddenly remembered this peaceful place. Instead of the usual mall visit or café plan, I thought, why not make this weekend different and meaningful? So I decided to take my family to Sankatharan Mahadev Mandir.
Shree Sankatharan Mahadev Mandir is located on NIBM Road, Kondhwa Khurd, near the post office. The temple is surrounded by residential buildings and is just about 100 meters from the main road.
Even though it is in a busy city area, the moment you enter the temple campus, you feel calm and relaxed. The noise of traffic slowly fades away, and the environment becomes peaceful and spiritual.
The temple complex is clean, spacious, and well maintained. It feels like a small spiritual garden in the middle of the city.

Our Journey – Just 20 Minutes
Since the temple is only 5 km from my house, our journey was quick and comfortable. Within 20 minutes, we reached the temple. Sometimes, the best trips are the shortest ones, especially when they bring peace and positivity without long travel.
There is a big parking area right in front of the main gate, which is very convenient for families and elderly visitors. You don’t have to worry about parking or walking long distances, which makes the visit even more comfortable.
As we reached the entrance, we saw the name Shree Sankatharan Mahadev Mandir written beautifully. Above the gate, there was a large OM symbol and Trishul, which instantly created a strong spiritual feeling. Even before entering, the place started giving positive and divine vibes.
Soft devotional songs (bhajans) were playing in the background, and the peaceful sound made the atmosphere feel calm, soothing, and spiritual. The noise of the city slowly faded away, and it felt like we had stepped into a place filled with peace and devotion.
First Darshan – Dakshinmukhi Maruti
As we entered the temple campus, the first shrine we visited was Dakshinmukhi Maruti. We took the blessings of Lord Hanuman and began our spiritual journey with a positive and peaceful feeling.
The entire campus is surrounded by large trees that provide natural shade. Walking under the cool greenery while devotional music plays in the background creates a calm and divine atmosphere that instantly relaxes the mind.
A Divine Surprise – Shani Shingnapur in Pune
One of the most surprising parts of this temple is the Shani Dev shrine, which is built just like the famous Shani Shingnapur.
This was a very emotional moment for my mother. She had always wished to visit Shani Shingnapur, but due to health issues and travel difficulties, it was not possible. Seeing this temple here filled her with happiness and devotion.
Since it was Saturday, a special day for Lord Shani, many devotees were offering oil (Tel Abhishek). My mother also offered oil and prayed with deep faith and gratitude.
Sometimes, when we cannot go to the temple, God brings the temple closer to us.
The Grand Mahadev Statue – A Divine Experience
Next, we saw a giant and beautiful statue of Lord Mahadev. The statue looks very divine, powerful, and peaceful at the same time. Standing in front of it gave us a feeling of calmness and devotion.
We offered our prayers and blessings, spent a few quiet moments there, and then clicked some photos. And of course, a family selfie too — because every trip feels incomplete without capturing a few happy and memorable moments.
Shivansh – Our Little Traveller’s First Spiritual Journey
This visit became even more special because our little son Shivansh was with us.
At this age, babies enjoy new surroundings, lights, sounds, and fresh air. He was quietly observing everything around him — devotees walking, temple bells ringing, and soft bhajans playing in the background. Sometimes he smiled, sometimes he looked curious, and sometimes he simply enjoyed the peaceful comfort of being in our arms.
For us, this was not just a temple visit. It was a beautiful family moment and another precious memory added to our journey with him. Visiting such a calm and spiritual place together made the experience even more meaningful and joyful.
Main Mahadev Temple
After that, we moved toward the Main Mahadev Temple. The structure of the temple is inspired by the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which gives it a very grand and traditional spiritual look.
The main gate was closed at that time because the evening aarti was going on.
But from outside, we could see the Shivling, which looks similar to the Mahakal Shivling of Ujjain. We offered our prayers from there and spent a few quiet moments, feeling the divine and peaceful spiritual energy.
During aarti time, the whole environment becomes more powerful, devotional, and spiritually uplifting.
A Complete Spiritual Walk Inside the Temple Complex
After visiting the main Mahadev temple, we slowly walked around the campus and visited the other temples inside the premises. The temple complex includes Sai Baba Temple, Ganesh Temple, Radha Krishna Temple, Navgrah Mandir, and Ram Mandir. Each temple has its own peaceful atmosphere, and we took blessings at every place with full devotion.
All the temples are clean, well maintained, and properly arranged, which makes the entire campus feel very organized and spiritually positive. The environment is calm, and devotional sounds in the background make the experience even more relaxing. There are also seating areas at different places where devotees can sit quietly, meditate, or simply spend some peaceful time away from the city noise.
One more beautiful part of this place is the Gaushala (cow shelter) inside the premises. The presence of cows adds a traditional and sacred feeling to the temple environment and reminds us of our cultural values. Overall, walking through the campus and visiting each temple felt like a complete spiritual journey within one place.
Returning Home with Peace
After spending some peaceful and relaxing time at the temple, we started our return journey back home. It was a short visit, but it gave us something very valuable — peace of mind, happiness, and a lot of positive energy.
The calm environment, the temple bells, the devotional atmosphere, and the time spent together as a family made this visit truly special. Sometimes, such simple moments stay in our hearts for a long time.
This experience reminded me that you don’t always need a long trip or a far destination. Sometimes, a small spiritual place near your home is enough to refresh your mind, heart, and soul.
